There has been a final end to the saga involving a 15-year-old secondary school girl, Precious Ugochi Okoro, who was sold into sex slavery in
Libya almost a year ago, as the person who struck the deal happens to
be her maternal uncle, 27-year-old Kelvin Okorie, who has confessed to
the police that he got the paltry sum of N10,000 in exchange for selling
his sister's daughter, so as to start his own business.
Okorie
was among five members of the syndicate who were arrested by operatives
of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Lagos State Police
Command after intensive investigations led by the famous Superintendent
Abba Kyari.
Other members of the gang include Innocent Onyekwe, 38, Ugwu Christopher, 37, Christian Mercy, 19, and Ogbonna Njioku, 20.
But
Okorie, in his confession, said he only agreed to selling the girl so
that he could collect the sum to invest in a business but did not know
she was going to be used as a sex slave.
He told
the police that his friends in Libya alleged that they could help young
Nigerian girls to secure employment in supermarkets and gas stations.
